Skye and Raasay’s coast records the memories of multiple generations. Collective Coast reflects our deep and ever-changing relationship with the waters around the islands.

Over a year during the pandemic, we gathered knowledge from residents using a series of postcards created from local archival images sourced from Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre. Distributed to community groups, shops, post offices and letterboxes, these postcards contained questions and prompts inviting recipients to share personal stories, memories, recipes, songs, and experiences of gathering seaweed, shells, folklore and traditions. Collective Coast assembled impressions of what the coast once was and what it can be allowing us to learn from the past to help envision the future.
