Shona Cameron, Director of CLIMAVORE, Skye and Raasay
Shona is a creative producer and project manager who has lived in Skye for over ten years. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art and The University of Edinburgh and has worked at ATLAS Arts and the National Galleries of Scotland. She is passionate about working with rural communities to deliver world-class place-based projects that inspire. Shona’s role focuses on all aspects of delivering CLIMAVORE across Skye and Raasay.
Dani Burrows, Director of Care
Dani has 15 years of experience supporting communities and cultural practitioners to deliver ambitious projects. She offers extensive knowledge of executive directorship functions including business development, fundraising, financial, operations, team, social engagement, sustainability and stakeholder management. She has experience in managing multi-million budget projects and organisations and specialises in sustainable development models with high social impact.
Rosa Whiteley, Director of Material Development
Rosa works on the intersection between critical ecology, architecture, and geopolitics. She has collaborated with CLIMAVORE since 2019 on numerous projects, both within the Isle of Skye and internationally. Rosa has a broad design-based skill set and has worked independently and collaboratively with artists, scientists, and researchers to develop a number of critically acclaimed projects focused on ecological design. Rosa holds an MA in Architecture from the Royal College of Art.
Joel Franklyn, Chief Fabricator
Joel is an award-winning fabricator of terrazzo materials based in Skye. Over 20 years’ experience working in conservation and stone masonry and material development.
Rachael Macleod, Shell Collection
Rachael has excellent interpersonal skills and is keenly interested in the material development aspect within CLIMAVORE, with her skills proving vital in early trials and product development.
Calum Macpherson, Shell Storage and Transport
Calum is a crofter from the Isle of Skye. He has expert skills in working with machinery.
Board of directors
CLIMAVORE is governed by a board of six directors who support the strategic direction of the organisation.
Matthew Baqueriza-Jackson
Based in Elgol, the Isle of Skye, Matthew is the Owner and Director of Matthew Baqueriza-Jackson Ltd. Matthew provides a range of independent policy advice work to local authorities, other anchor institutions, and voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations across the UK and Europe. Matthew was part of the team at the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) that brought Community Wealth Building (CWB) to a UK context, and is currently working with a number of localities on the progressive procurement pillar of CWB. Matthew is an Expert for the EU’s URBACT Programme and is currently facilitating a Network of 9 cities and regions focused on Gender Responsive Public Procurement.
Suzy Lee
Suzy is the Station Manager and one of the main presenters at Radio Skye. She has initiated a youth training programme; YouthSPACE and been successful in bringing in two new positions to the station along with developing sustainable income resources. She has a background in visual arts, completed a Masters in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and eight years working as Office Manager and Film Programmer at ATLAS. She is community focused and passionate about sustainable living.
Artemis Pana
Artemis joined as a CLIMAVORE Director in 2023 after several years on the Advisory Group exploring how the Relearning: Regrowing: Rebuilding model can bring benefits to her community. She lives on the Isle of Raasay where she volunteers on the Parent Council and the board of Raasay Community Renewables. In her day job she is National Coordinator of Scottish Rural Action (SRA), a charity which connects rural and island communities to each other and to decision-makers to share learning and shape policy. Core to her role at SRA is organising the bi-annual Scottish Rural & Islands Parliament.
Freya Rowe
Freya is the founder of Raasay House, a sustainable family business, on the Isle of Raasay. Over the past years she has managed to attract major funding to transform Raasay House into a valuable community asset to help sustain its fragile island community and bring benefits to residents and businesses alike. Raasay House has been a huge supporter of the Becoming CLIMAVORE movement, as a partner restaurant since 2017 and hosting a CLIMAVORE apprentice in 2018.
Local advisory group
The Local Advisory Group supports the board and the team with development possibilities, local networks, partners and connections. They make recommendations and provide a context for directorial decisions.
